Place subjects on a new background
Separate a product, portrait, or object from its background before placing it in another design. Preview transparency over a grid, white, or dark background before saving.
Edges may be imperfect when subject and background colors are similar, or around fine hair, translucent glass, and shadows. Inspect important images before using them.
Balanced or Detailed
Balanced runs faster; Detailed spends more time on fine edges. Neither setting guarantees a perfect result for every photo.
Transparent PNG versus a white background
The grid is only a transparency preview. The saved file contains alpha transparency, not the grid or white fill.
First-use model download
The first run downloads a roughly 42MB background-removal model. Your browser may cache it for later use, but clearing the cache or switching devices can require another download.
Helpful answers before you start
Will the checkerboard appear in my download?
No. Grid, white, and dark are preview backgrounds only. The downloaded PNG keeps its transparency.
Can I save the result as JPG?
No. JPG cannot preserve transparency, so the result downloads as PNG. To add a solid background, place the PNG over that color in an image editor.
Can I use an iPhone HEIC photo directly?
This tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WEBP only. Convert HEIC to JPG first, then use the converted photo here.
Is the original image size preserved?
The output PNG retains the original width and height. The cutout mask is calculated at a smaller size according to the chosen quality, so tiny edges may differ.
