If an iPhone photo is saved as HEIC, Toolit's background remover cannot read it directly. Renaming .heic to .jpg is not conversion: make an actual JPG copy, then remove its background.

Why the JPG step is necessary
Background Remover accepts JPG, PNG, and WEBP, not HEIC. A photo opening in another HEIC-capable app says nothing about this tool's input formats. Changing the filename extension leaves the underlying image data unchanged.
Color or metadata may differ in the converted copy, so do not delete the HEIC original. The JPG is an input for the next step, not the desired final cutout.
If the intermediate JPG is too large
The remover checks both file size and width times height. If the input exceeds either limit, prepare a smaller copy or crop to the relevant subject. A reduced source will not gain lost detail by being enlarged again, so use the clearest photo that fits.
Avoid flattening the final result
The intermediate JPG has no transparency; the remover's output does. Resaving the final PNG as JPG in a photo app can fill transparent areas with a solid color. Check the PNG in its destination and retain the transparent original.
