Helpful answers before you start
Can I compress an image under exactly 500KB or 1MB?
The tool searches for a result within the target but cannot guarantee success for every image. Check any target-not-met notice and actual bytes when permitted quality and dimensions are insufficient. Leave margin if the destination uses a different KB convention.
What image quality percentage should I use?
Target-size mode calculates quality automatically. In manual mode, start around 80% for a WEBP or JPG photo and inspect the preview.
Should I choose WEBP, JPG, or PNG?
Choose WEBP for smaller web and messaging images, JPG for broad compatibility, and PNG when you need transparency or crisp edges in logos and graphics.
Why is the quality control disabled for PNG?
PNG is lossless and does not use a quality percentage like JPG or WEBP. Target-size mode reduces dimensions while preserving transparency; for photos, WEBP usually reaches the target with better visual quality.
Can the compressed result be larger than the original?
Yes. Re-encoding an already optimized file at higher quality or as PNG can make it larger. Try WEBP, a smaller maximum dimension, or a lower quality setting.
Will a transparent background be preserved?
WEBP and PNG preserve transparency. JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are saved with a white background.
Should I compress an already compressed result again?
You can, but repeated JPG or WEBP compression can soften text and edges. When you have a target size, restart from the original and reach the target in one pass.
