After sharing your screen, return to Toolit and click Start recording. Sharing alone does not start recording.

Start with 1–2 minutes

Recorded data accumulates in memory. Recording stops around 200MiB or 30 recorded minutes. These safeguards do not guarantee success on every device.

Hide private information and check consent and applicable rules before recording meetings or classes.

Just three simple steps

  1. 1

Choose screen audio, microphone, and webcam options, then click Choose screen. Select a surface and confirm audio sharing and requested device permissions.

  2. 2

Return to Toolit, check the preview and audio, and adjust webcam position and size. Start recording after the three-second countdown; pause or resume when needed.

  3. 3

Finish recording, check playback and sound, and save the file. Make a GIF continues to a tool for selecting a short scene.

Supported formats

Input: a desktop screen, window, or tab selected by you, plus optional microphone and webcam. Output: MP4 or WEBM supported by your browser. GIF is a separate, silent conversion.

Test a short demonstration first

Desktop Chrome or Edge recommended · Stops around 200MiB or 30 recorded minutes · Mobile, company policies, and audio sharing have environment-specific limits

Save a short screen demonstration without installing software

Use Screen Recorder to capture a click sequence, a reproducible bug, or a short software demonstration. Selecting only the needed window or tab rather than the entire screen reduces accidental capture of private information. Choosing a surface does not start file recording: check the preview and click Start recording.

The browser creates MP4 or WebM without downloading a separate conversion engine. This is not a replacement for a dedicated recorder for an entire important meeting or long lecture. Low memory or device sleep can interrupt recording. Test a short clip first and save the finished file before closing the browser.

Place your webcam away from important controls

Camera permission is requested only with Include webcam enabled. Bottom right and Medium are the defaults. After choosing a screen, compare four corners and three sizes in the preview. Settings lock at countdown, and the visible webcam is included in the saved file. Avoid covering buttons or captions. Webcam composition requires a supported desktop browser and adds processing work. Test 720p or disable webcam if playback stutters. A connection failure is explained and screen-only recording remains available.

Tab audio is not the same as all PC audio

Selecting a browser tab with Share tab audio enabled makes it easier to confirm audio capture. Window or entire-screen audio support varies by browser and OS. The screen-audio checkbox alone does not guarantee sound: check connected tracks, the meter, and a short test playback.

Add narration with a microphone; use headphones to reduce echo

When enabled, microphone narration and captured screen audio are mixed into the recording. The mix leaves headroom for two sources, but does not automatically normalize their relative loudness. Use headphones to avoid recording speaker audio twice. The live preview does not play the captured sound back through your speakers.

Sharing, pausing, and saving are different actions

Pause stops adding time to the file while screen and microphone capture remain active. Finish recording or the browser's Stop sharing ends recording and produces a result. A visible result is not automatically saved to disk: click Save recording and check downloads. A failed new recording keeps the previous result; a completed new result replaces it.

Helpful answers before you start

What happens if I deny camera permission or the webcam disconnects?

If the camera cannot connect, an explanation is shown and the screen is prepared without it. Cancel selection to release devices and choose again. If the camera disconnects during recording, the overlay is removed and screen recording continues. If composition itself fails, recording ends and any retained footage is shown; inspect playback. Pause does not switch the camera off.

Do I need to install software or sign up?

No installation or account is needed, and no watermark is added. Screen-sharing and microphone permissions are still required. The tool cannot bypass company security policies or OS permission restrictions.

Why does my recording have a picture but no sound?

Audio sharing may not have been enabled in the picker, or the chosen surface and OS may not support it. Microphone permission may also have been denied or the device muted. Cancel the selection, choose a browser tab with Share tab audio, allow the microphone if needed, and test again.

Is the recording always saved as MP4?

No. A supported MP4 format is preferred; otherwise the browser records WebM. The tool does not simply rename a WebM file to MP4. Check the actual output format and try a short test clip in the recipient's player.

Can I record on a phone or capture a long lecture?

Use an up-to-date desktop Chrome or Edge browser. Many mobile browsers have no screen-sharing API. Data accumulates in memory and recording stops around 200MiB or 30 recorded minutes; some devices may fail earlier. Use a proven dedicated application for important long recordings.

Can I turn the recording into a GIF?

Click Make a GIF on the completed result to pass the video within the same browser session. On desktop, choose a scene up to 30 seconds to make a silent GIF. GIF can be larger than video, so lower size and motion settings and check the actual output size. Save the original first because a page refresh can interrupt the handoff.
